About us

Cappella Polyphonica Salesiana is an amateur choir about 50 members directed by Jiřina Pleská (graduate from musicology program at Masaryk University in Brno). The ensemble was founded in 1996 at Salesian center Brno - Žabovřesky.


Interested in exchange?


The choir´s repertoire consists mainly of liturgical and choir music ranging from renaissance to baroque, 20th century works, orthodox Christian music and spirituals.  The choir makes several appearances a year, mostly at choir music concerts.


In 2002 the members took part in choir exchange program between Cappella Polyphonica Salesiana nad Laus Deo choir in Busto Arsizia, Italy. This was followed by another exchange with Barcelona´s Cor Albada in 2006 and 2007


In 2008 and 2010 the choir was awarded silver medal at Festival of Songs, Olomouc. In 2012 the choir participated in Garwolin festival, Poland and in the same year celebrated its 15th anniversary by a concert, performing Stabat Mater by Czech composer F. Tůma and Laudatur Jesus Christus by M. B. Černohorský apart from other works. Among other major pieces the choir has performed are Magnificat by Fr. X. Brixi and Ceremony of Carols by B. Britten.
